After receiving the keys to the shrine that his grandfather kept watch of as a coming of age hazing ritual, Tenchi goes into the shrine and accidentally breaks the seal, he journeys further in and finds a mummified ryoko who wakes up and gently caresses his face, in panic the master sword that he got when he removed the seal activates and forces ryoko away. Tenchi runs out of the shrine and tries to close it up as ryoko stayed behind.
Unknown to him this caused the royal tree buried in the nearby shrine to send out a signal to tsunami which alerted ayeka's ship to her brother's location.
Tenchi succeeds at sealing ryoko back in but also unknown to him, she had already been gathering energy to let herself out and was almost done. He had only accelerated the process when he opened it. At the end of summer vacation he went back home to the town of kurashiki, where his father had moved. On the first day back from school he decided to go have lunch on the roof of the school and fell asleep. When he woke up it was night time and there was a beautiful girl named Ryoko (spirit caller) playing with a bell collar that had belonged to his pet cat chibi-chan, she threw it at him introduced herself and then happily chased after him throughout his school, she phased through walls and shot out lightning at him in her pursuit to blow off steam over the grudge she held at his ancestor for being sealed for so long.
overwhelmed by her power he ran from her until finally he could run no more, When he had thought it was the end for him the sword he had found in the shrine shined brilliantly, without his input the sword began moving him on it's own and attacked her cutting off her right wrist, ridding her of the gem which was the source of her power and she left. everything except for his school burning down seemed resolved, until he came home to find her sleeping happily in his bed.
ryoko warns tenchi that ayeka a princess from space is coming to attack them, so she makes him give him back one of her jewels
Ayeka, a princess from space, comes and attacks them. ryoko shrinks tenchi's house with her space ship the ryo ohki and heads off with tenchi into space to escape ayeka
a battle ensues and they are captured.
ayeka questions ryoko to find the location of her sword and is told to ask tenchi, ayeka is confused because the sword is named tenchi.
before she can get more info her royal drones force her to get ready for bed.
tenchi meanwhile is released from his prison by ayeka's sister sasami,who frees him so he can pull a prank on ayeka and grab her master key, he fails to retrieve it and is chased by their guards asaka and kamidake.
he meets up with sasami and ayeka and ryoko, he and ryoko escape as ryo-ohki mounts itself into ayeka's ship, it then drags her ship crashing down to the surface of the planet where it skips on the water and destroys the
seto bridge before they land back in okayama where tenchi's grandfather's shrine is, his home is moved there permanently.
they ryo-ohki is destroyed and begins regenerating everyone is stranded and moves in with tenchi
right after her birthday, ayeka finds herself dreaming about the time she presented her brother with a royal tear drop flower
and the time yosho ran off to fight ryoko. she awakens to find ryoko inspecting the crash site.
ryoko fused chibi and tenchi's child hood pet rabits soul with her ship the ryo-ohki and when it regenerates it comes back
in the form of an egg. sasami persuades ayeka to come down stares and socialize, despite her reluctance and ryoko shows off the egg
and acts like it's her and tenchi's child to tease ayeka, it hatches into a cute cat rabit hybrid, the second generation
ryo ohki, while storming out ayeka is confronted by tenchi's grandfather and is reminded again of yosho.
ryo ohki goes to console ayeka as she goes out and cries over her ship but only ends up scaring her.
she dislikes her out of principal at first but as ryo-ohki follows her around all day she warms up to her.
on the walk away from ryo-ohki she finds a royal teardrop flower on earth.
ryo-ohki leads her to tenchi who is sword training with yosho, ayeka notices their martial arts are that of jurai's
she trips when they notice her and she hurts her foot. tenchi starts taking her home when it rains.
sasami begs for ryoko to change the weather but they don't have that technology on earth ....yet.
tenchi takes ayeka into a storehouse to keep her out of the rain the two share an intimate moment but are soon interrupted by
ryo-ohki who comes into the storehouse after them. while in there ryo-ohki finds a basket of carrots and becomes addicted
for life to carrots. tenchi makes the biggest mistake ever in anime history and invited ayeka to stay with him for as long
as she likes.
on the way home tenchi takes her to see the shrines giant tree, ayeka examines it and finds that it's her brother's royal tree
she examines it's memories and comes to the conclusion that her brother is still alive.
ayeka returns the tenchi sword to tenchi and asks her to guard her till her brother is found.
ryoko shows up with sasami she came to help take ayeka back but ayeka insults her and she gets mad and leaves them to get back on their own.
they go home together.
meanwhile in space kagato gets the signal from ryo-ohki that ryoko has awoken and the souja attacks the gp as it barrels its way towards earth.
minami, mihoshi's grandfather alerts her superior officer nobeyama? I think that's his name...
and he asks his assistant who's patrolling that area and is shocked to find that it's mihoshi. he has his assistant contact.
her to tell her not to pursue him because everything she does is a paperwork nightmare and while she is an excellent detective
she racks up tons of incidental bills and misconduct reports every time she solves a case.
she misinterprets these orders and heads for earth as her nb unit, yukinojo briefs her on the matter.
meanwhile on earth tenchi takes the girls on vacation to his great aunt akie's hot spring resort.
ryoko teases ayeka during this and exposes her to tenchi, exposure of a juraian princesses skin is supposed to be reserved for their husbands only so this gets her in a fighting mood. the two start to tear the place up and ryoko summons a spirit from the astral sea that she can't control because she lacks more then one gem . it starts destroying the sauna, mihoshi meanwhile starts her decent to earth which has no automated landing points and crashed into the sauna, because the spirit creates an energy vortex. tenchi gets the tenchi sword but cant defeat it. the space ship sucks itself and the spirit into subspace storage and ejects mihoshi into tenchi's arms.
when mihoshi wakes up she figures out the strange situation and is confused by it she passes out, akie finds them and kicks them all out of the resort,
mihoshi finds herself stranded on earth she goes to live with tenchi .
later that night sasami has a prophetic dream foretelling the coming of kagato. he comes and examines ryoko's shrine and finds it empty he plans his attack.
as tenchi harvests carrots one day in the field it begins to snow using the same technology that washu used to storm seiniwa, ryo-ohki notices this and goes to warn ryoko who is lounging in the new floating hot spring that she has installed on the property. ryoko and ayeka have a talk and she explains how she has known tenchi all his life due to her astral projecting despite him never knowing it.
in a cut out scene she explains that she forgave yosho after the first 100 years and actually was about to break and she was mummified because she had been storing energy to escape, when she first got enough energy to astral project outside the first thing she saw was tenchi crying for his dead mom and he kept noticing her on some level as he grew up even though she was invisible. ayeka is envious of this but denies it. mihoshi comes and interrupts their talk.
kagato comes in and takes over ryoko's body and takes her off with her to the funaho tree.
tenchi tries to fight him with the sword but kagato attempts to take it from him stating that it doesn't belong to him but rather to the king of jurai. This is because Azusa had two master keys, the tenchi sword and mizuki's eye but he gave the sword to yosho to control his ship funaho instead of making a new master key. ryoko blocks his attack. the two begin to sword fight but tenchi stands no chance, as he goes to take the sword tenchi's grandfather shows up and reveals himself as yosho, he fights yosho and uses ryoko as backup. yosho sticks the sword in the tree and kagato is harmed when he tries to retrieve so he leaves with ryoko.
ayeka confronts her long lost brother who explains that marriage with her would have caused political unrest. he instead suggests she get with tenchi. tenchi sets out to rescue ryoko, he takes the sword and ryo-ohki goes and gets funaho's core unit and fuses with it they head out into space after kagato.
they have trouble getting ryo-ohki to avoid kagato's attacks but mihoshi finds the main computer crystal and gets it drunk. ayeka sends tenchi to deploy her ship's light hawk wings for defense she then plans to use it for offense instead of defense, kagato launches a counter attack and it destroys the ryu-oh unit attacked to ryo-ohki seemingly killing tenchi, ryoko breaks free of kagato's prison and goes to find him but only finds sign of his death. she vows revenge on kagato and goes to tell ayeka and the others.
sasami who stayed on earth learns of what's going on through her link with tsunami that makes her privy to the on goings of all ships. she rushes to open a portal through funaho to the ship version of tsunami, tsunami meanwhile captures tenchi's half destroyed body and takes it onboard herself.
mihoshi ayeka and ryoko charge into the souja mihoshi accidentally warps herself to a sealed off side of the ship with one of her police tools.
ayeka rushes at kagato and ryoko attacks and is caught off guard because she actually was attacking an illusion, kagato seizes here and turns her to stone.
on the other side of the ship mihoshi is attacked by security bots in the form of snakes, washu wakes up from her stasis and takes them out and pulls ryoko's astral body to the sealed off side of the ship. she introduces herself as ryoko's mother and that she is psychically linked to ryoko so she knows all her memories, she sends her back to fight kagato.
mihoshi begs to go back over but washu tries to explain that that is impossible.
mean while kagato tries to question ayeka to find out why only the royal family has access to the royal trees. his interrogation fails and he is attacked by ryoko.
tenchi's body is restored by tsunami but he gains a mysterious symbol on his head.
tsunami introduces herself to him. he requests that he send her to fight kagato.
ryoko fights kagato but has to hold back to keep ayeka safe, washu notices this and so she uses mihoshi's device to get ayeka over to the sealed off part of the ship.
kagato drains ryoko's gems into the souja to launch a blast at the earth predicting that it will lure out tsunami. it works and tsunami the ship shows up and begins attacking.
tenchi bursts in to stop him and starts fighting kagato with the tenchi sword. it proves to be useless, because of course it is tenchi muyo means useless tenchi..... kagato now having all 3 gems sucks out their power both into the ship and into himself. as all seems lost tsunami tells him to use his own power not the swords. he discards it and suddenly manifests 3 light hawk wings a new outfit and a new sword and shield out of nothing, he slices kagato in half and kagato slices him in half but the wound heals itself, kagato, possessing a body not made of normal material dissipates instead of just dying like normal. washu rushes to introduce herself to tenchi and declares him her new lab rat, the ship splits in two they evacuate, back on earth everyone gets settled back in and azaka and kamidake, ayeka's guardian robots become sign posts for the house.
later that month as tenchi changes he notices the ring on his finger that activates his guardian system and transforms him into his battle clothes out of his clothes falls ryuoh's seed he gives it to ayeka who takes it to washu's lab which is now located through teleportation gate under the stairs to give it to washu plant into a new unit.
tenchi's starts growing miles and miles of carrot fields.
tenchi goes to get washu for breakfast and ends up tied up in washu's lab where she tries to experiment on him. as she goes to grab a sperm sample mihoshi barges in and starts pressing buttons, blowing up things in her lab.
the girls of the house discover romance manga and ryoko and ayeka go overboard trying to recreate the scenarios in them with tenchi.
the two of them decide that there is too much competition with the other girls around because they keep getting in the way of their plots to win over tenchi so they make a truce and work to send mihoshi away, ryoko calls and poses as mihoshi's superior and orders her back to work. washu pulls her ship out of subspace, bringing the ghost along with it. washu easily disposes of the spirit and mihoshi goes back and makes a huge report over everything that happened in excruciating detail but soon heads back to earth. ryoko ties up aykea and heads for tenchi's room but is blocked by a device that teleports her to the pond when she opens the door without knocking. her and ayeka keep getting caught up into it until eventually their fighting is interrupted by sasami who has a bad dream about the goddess tokimi approaching and taking tenchi away with her. they rush in and are teleported into the pond where mihoshi crashes her ship. destroying the house, the family goes to live inside ryuoh's newly forms residential subspace area. while its reconstructed.
This reconstruction takes place during a now cut and semi non canonical part of tenchi known as episode 7.5 Here comes Hakua
This is part of the Tenchi muyo pcfx game along with episode 9.8 "crashing into kiyone!" which is no longer cannon for the obvious reason of introducing kiyone makibi to the ova canon
