The True Tenchi Novels


The True Tenchi Novels are three Prequel novels that are supposed to be read after OVA 2 before OVA 3. They are so fundamental to ova 3 that they may in fact be the reason that it's release took so long. They were written (or rather more likely storyboarded as movies judging on the sketches and story structure) for years before they were released and there is evidence in their text to show that they went through various phases of being considered for different mediums before they were released as novels.

There was a rumor of a 4th Novel about Mihoshi for the longest time but it never happened and all in all there's even evidence for there being a second set of true tenchi novels that are still unreleased,(Kajishima has had the whole story written up and storyboarded for over two decades judging from his various commentaries he's given). They were all officially translated, my translations were condensed and had a few minor errors, I honestly recommend the official release, but my translation of washu picked up romantic subtext the official leaves out. I am thinking of publishing the commentary here to read by itself as a companion.
