Slayers Special Summaries

Slayers Special 27:

Lost Memory [Part 1] Lina Inverse encounters a woman with amnesia, whom she temporarily names Françoise, collapsed on a highway. While traveling together toward the town of Simia, they are confronted by a mysterious man in a cloak who demands that Lina hand the woman over. Lina uses levitation to escape with Françoise, but the man threatens to return. In Simia, a doctor confirms Françoise's amnesia was caused by a head injury, and the two agree to travel together for five days to uncover her identity. Late that night, the cloaked man and his pack of dogs attack them in the streets, but they retreat after Françoise instinctively defends herself by throwing several knives with expert precision.

Lost Memory [Part 2] Lina and Françoise head toward Lotus Village to continue their investigation and lure out the cloaked man. They are eventually confronted at the edge of the village by the man, who is revealed to be a professional named Deeke. During the confrontation, Françoise’s true identity is revealed as Lavinia, Deeke's partner and a fellow assassin. It is revealed that the two were hired to kill Lina, but Lavinia’s amnesia was accidentally caused by Deeke hitting her too hard with a log while trying to fake an injury. Lina defeats Deeke and his remaining dogs with a lightning spell but spares their lives. Lavinia decides to try to live as a decent person instead of returning to her life as an assassin.

Stamp to Kill [Part 1] Lina enters a town where the eccentric Guard Captain Petal is conducting "inspections" by stamping a specific mark on travelers' arms. A subordinate named Ryker explains that the Captain is actually mimicking a mark used by a notorious assassin known as "Sleepy Eye" to mark his next victims. Lina realizes the Captain has inadvertently put himself and others in danger of being targeted by the real killer. She devises a plan to use the Captain as bait to draw out the assassin, forcing him to cooperate despite his fears.

Stamp to Kill [Part 2] During the stakeout, the real "Sleepy Eye"—a monstrous chimera based on a leech—appears and attacks. Captain Petal attempts a heroic strike from a rooftop but misses completely and falls. Lina and the Sorcerer's Association members engage the creature, eventually managing to defeat it. Afterward, Lina encounters a group of werewolves who claim they only want to live in peace, but she remains skeptical of their intentions. In a characteristically destructive move, she levels the area with a Dragon Slave spell to ensure the threat is eliminated.

Family Portrait Lina reunites with Ryker and is shocked to discover that the bumbling Captain Petal has a beautiful wife, Floresia, and a daughter named Muse. She joins them on a carriage ride toward Metroze City to deliver an important letter. Along the way, they are ambushed by a group of men seeking the letter, led by a masked figure who claims to be a colleague of the Captain. Lina pursues the masked man through an alleyway, engaging in a magical duel of arrows and wind spells. The conflict is eventually resolved, though Lina remains exasperated by the Captain’s inexplicably happy family life and the chaos that follows him.

Slayers Special 29:

It Can't Be Called a Copycat (Part 1) Lina Inverse wakes up in an inn in Tremad City to find Naga the Serpent standing over her, having fled from the city guards. From their window, they witness a shadow leaping across rooftops with a boisterous, familiar-sounding laugh. The next morning, they learn from the innkeeper that a thief using the name "Serpent Naga" is committing high-profile robberies while dressed in a swimsuit-like outfit. Naga is outraged by the "fake" thief's poor imitation of her laugh and demands they catch the culprit; Lina agrees on the condition that they split any recovered treasure fifty-fifty. To avoid confusion with the guards, Lina gives Naga the alias "Grace". While investigating the latest crime scene, they meet a female guard named Helen Weaver, who is frustrated by gender discrimination in the guard force. Helen and Lina form an immediate bond over their shared physical similarities, and Helen agrees to provide information in exchange for a share of the credit to help her earn a promotion. Helen reveals that the thief has a pattern of sending advance notices and then striking a different location. On the night of the next predicted crime, Lina and Naga stake out the city from a church spire. When a diversionary whistle sounds, Lina realizes it is a trick and has Naga unleash her signature laugh to challenge the thief and signal the guards. They pursue a figure in a black cloak and swimsuit across the rooftops and corner her, but the woman they catch is a short-haired blonde who claims to be a mere passerby.

It Can't Be Called a Copycat (Part 2) The day after the arrest, Helen visits Lina and Naga with news that a new theft notice has arrived even though the blonde woman is still in custody. Lina deduces that the thief is actually part of a duo: one person commits the crime while the other establishes an alibi, and they swap roles to avoid suspicion. She further realizes that the "thief's" distinctive features—the long hair and large chest—are likely just padding and wigs. Lina eventually confronts Helen, accusing her of being the accomplice because she was the only person who knew exactly where Lina and Naga would be stationed on the roof. Helen panics and claims she only shared the information because she wanted to brag about the investigation.

Magical Old Woman Princia: Lina is hired by Chairman Ritchum to deal with a legendary sorceress named Princia who has "occupied" a local garden. To Lina's shock, Princia turns out to be an elderly woman who dresses in a frilly, pink "magical girl" outfit and refers to herself in the third person. Princia uses a mascot named Tota-tota and activates powerful spells using nonsensical, rhythmic chants. Despite her ridiculous appearance, Princia’s magical speed is relentless, and she easily repels Lina's initial attacks. Lina eventually decides to use Naga as a decoy, knowing her rival's boisterous nature and similar eccentricities will distract Princia. The plan leads to a chaotic magical confrontation that eventually resolves the situation, though Lina is left horrified by the realization that Naga will likely grow up to be exactly like Princia.

Comfortably Pointing: Lina encounters a Dullahan named Dune and his companion Hans. They seek her help in dealing with another Dullahan, Feudore, who has been terrorizing a nearby town by pronouncing death sentences upon the inhabitants. Dune explains that if Feudore continues his spree, it will trigger a "Dullahan hunt" that would endanger all of them. Lina engages Feudore in a night-time battle near a hilltop, eventually defeating the rogue knight. After the battle, Dune retrieves a dull green stone from Feudore’s armor, explaining that it serves as an "anchor" for a Dullahan's spirit and contains the remnants of his bitterness. Dune and Hans depart, intending to carry the stone with them as a memorial, much to Lina's annoyance.

Slayers Special 30:

The Dancing Labyrinth Lina Inverse is hired by Magrid, the Vice-Councilor of a local Sorcerers' Guild, to clear beasts from newly discovered ruins. Magrid insists she avoid destructive magic like the Dragon Slave to preserve the site’s historical value. Upon entering, they discover the ruins are enchanted with a psychological trap: anyone who attempts to strike the obvious "buttons" or "switches" triggers a mechanism that rotates the circular rooms, causing intruders to lose their way. Lina and Magrid find themselves trapped in a shifting maze alongside a group of rogue researchers, led by Magrid's subordinate Lewis, who are searching for funds. Lina manages to navigate the labyrinth by deducing its rotating logic and freezing the released beasts along the way. Ultimately, the "ruins" are revealed to be a modern underground colosseum commissioned by King Kalmato, and the "traps" were merely unfinished entertainment features.

The Beetle Slayers Lina and Naga the Serpent arrive in a village that produces "Panon," a luxury fruit currently under siege by a swarm of intelligent, giant beetles. The beetles are led by the "Beetle King," a creature capable of coordinating the swarm like an army. They eventually defeat the Beetle King, saving the harvest. They depart with their reward.

The Silver Bullet Lina finds herself in the middle of a long-standing "friendship" festival between two rival towns that consists of a massive, violent snowball fight. Though the rules state only snowballs may be used, the participants treat the event like a literal war, complete with military strategies and deep-seated grudges. Naga appears on the opposing team, using the festival as an excuse to challenge Lina. The competition escalates until the heat of the conflict—and Lina's magic—causes the ice on the lake to break, dropping everyone into the freezing water. The local mayor reveals that this happens every year and is considered the traditional end of the festival. Lina and Naga leave the town quickly, disturbed by the locals' casual attitude toward the life-threatening "tradition".

Seeking the lost reparation money:
Chairman Richum is found by Lina in distress. His new hire conned him. Lina uncovers the conspiracy to steal the money he had to commission a chimera, by the person who was supposed to commission it and his new hire; and after a long battle, the culprits are informed that it's a high crime punishable by death they cave and agree to actually go through with the Chimera Commission.
